Hola Madre!
That is one full week down in Mexico! And there wasn’t a whole lot that happened… Except for an awesome lesson with Miguel!
Ok so I’m still not one hundred percent sure were we found him. I think he was an antiguo (old friend of the church) that we just called up and asked if he wanted to meet with us again. Right now with covid we can’t enter homes but we can meet up at the church building and talk. So we did. I can still remember how the lesson went. Me with my armature spanish watched as my native spanish companion just starts popping off and spitting straight fire. Haha, not literally but he is honestly an awesome teacher. Did I ever mention that we were born on the same day and year? Ya, he’s my Mexican twin. Anyways I am so blessed do have him as a companion.
So we get towards the end of teaching Miguel about the gospel of Jesus Christ and we invite him to be baptized. He was all for it but didn’t want to set any dates until like a month out so he can spiritually prepare. Which is completely valid. But my comp, being led by the spirit, shared the story of the Egyptian eunuch (Acts 8) and I could tell Elder Rojas was feeling the spirit because every word penetrated my heart. Mind you, this was all at the end of the lesson my brain was already fried from trying to interpret and teach in spanish. But I was so transfixed by his teaching. I didn’t even realize Miguel was sobbing. This was exactly what he needed to hear.we ended up giving him a big hug and walking him out of the church building. So keep your eyes peeled for his baptism! Haha.
After the lesson I had to take a moment. I started to cry too. I had realized, I had spent an entire year in North Carolina trying to teach people this gospel. I had never had a reaction like that. Finding someone who was ready to hear our message was so hard in the states. My old companion Elder Shaw told me before I left that for every rejection in the states, someone in Mexico gets baptized. I didn’t think that it was actually legit until I got here. This mission is so different I am so excited for this next year!
Another cool thing that happened was we have been having a friend of ours attend Church with us for the last two weeks. This week he got to hear about General Conference and he seemed super interested. So we invited him to watch it next week! But then another funny thing happened. The priesthood lesson for this week was about priesthood authority. Which was great for him. Plus an older gentleman wasn’t feeling too good so he asked for a blessing. Another great opportunity for him to watch. But then it took a weird turn. The Elders Quorum president thought it would be a good idea to demonstrate another blessing, with oil and the whole 9 yards. And he chose me to give the blessing! Lol I totally botched it so when I finished he was like “was that right?” and another man was like “ya no worries” because he knew we probably didn’t need to do that lol. In conclusion. I’m glad our investigator got to see how a blessing works and I got to practice giving a blessing spanish.
Anyways, a side from that we have litterally just been trying to grind. We made like 300 phone calls in 3 days. Hardly any of them were interested. So we are gonna need a plan B for this week haha.
Sorry, like hardly any of my pictures are from this week. I just got them a couple of days ago. But I would like to say a Manzanita Sol from Mexico is 1000 times better than one from the US!
Till next time,
Elder Service
