Hi Mom!
So ya, we sat down with a family to have a nice lesson and boom! Some kid snatches one of our bikes Haha. It wouldn’t be a good Mexico mission if we didn’t have something stolen.
Anyways it’s gonna be a bummer without a bike this week but we will try our best to get around. Hopefully we can just go buy a new one.🤞
Anyways on to the meat of this week. I’ll apologize for the lack of visual stimulation. We have been asked by the mission not to openly carry our phones (because of all the robberies.) So I haven’t been able to take too many photos. Additionally they gave us some pretty awesome brick phones so we can carry those instead. Only problem, the one they gave us doesn’t have a battery 🤦♂️ so we’ve carried the nice phone anyways.
I have some good news! Karen (the poor lizard that got stuck under our door last week) was totally just chilling out on our patio! We tried to set her free by just placing her out there. But she didn’t want to leave. So we decided to take her all the way down stairs and place her on the ground. Hopefully she is doing ok haha.
On Sunday we got a referall for litterally the most amazing and powerful family I have ever met. It’s a family of 3. An 18 year old, an 11 year old, and an 8 year old. That’s right, the 18 year old is basically providing for her 2 siblings. Luckily she is getting support from her neighbors. Plus, their father is in the US trying to earn money to help them. Anyways, they are so awesome. The 18 year old is so willing to learn. She paid perfect attention the whole time. One of the reasons she wants to meet with us is because she actually wants to serve a mission! I am so excited to meet with them this next week!
Quick spiritual thought about walking by faith from 2 Corinthians 5:4-7
4 For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.
5 Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.
6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:
7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
That is to say; despite the less than ideal conditions here on earth. The things that make us groan and feel burdened like natural disasters, war, depression, and even having our bikes stolen… We have reason to ALWAYS be confident. We have reason to always look at the positive in life. As long as we have faith. For faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1).
The thing is we can put our faith in a lot of things. Our friends, work, entertainment, food. All things that we believe will make us happy. I for one always go to the premier for a marvel movie with a lot of faith that it will thoroughly entertain me. And it nearly always does. Why because I have confidence that it will.
There is something I have learned while on the mission. There is something even better than a Marvel movie. That is to have faith in God and His Plan of Happiness. His plan of Salvation is the source of all happiness and joy. There is nothing better than knowing, with clarity, the ‘secrets’ of the universe. As a member of this church I have something to hope for after this life. I might not know what will happen between now and then but with faith, nothing can stop me from feeling down. I say that in the name of the man who is at the center if it all,he Jesus Christ, amen.
Till next time,
Elder Service
