Hi Mom!
We did a TON of traveling this week so let’s dive into it.
Tuesday, the day after transfers, we went to Delta’s church to have my first in person Zone Conference in Mexico! There was only about 50 missionaries. And fortunately we never got held at gunpoint like the Torreon mission. (Prayers out to them) However starting today we are going to be receiving self defense classes because in just the last month and a half we have had 4 phones stolen in just our Zone! So I’m excited haha.
Also at Zone Conference we had the privilege of hearing from the General Authority 70 over all of Mexico, Elder Montoya. He was so dope! Something really surprised me though. I was actually understanding the entire Conference. IN SPANISH!! I even got to answer a few questions. It was a truly spiritual uplifting experience. Got to see a lot of familiar faces and take a lot of photos with them.
Then we found out that all of the Leadership in the mission had to go to Querétaro, that included my companion. So he left to Querétaro the next day and I had to spend all of Wednesday in León (León Moderno) with the legendary Elder Cirne. We got to eat tacos at member owned restaurant and then walked to an appointment. Which reminds me it’s about time for me to buy new shoes. So that’s prolly what I’ll do today in León. But also I León was a big Ole mural of León in the style of The Simpsons. Super dope, so I just had to take a photo. Or two haha.
The most miraculous part about this whole week was we lost power on Tuesday. Now bare with me. Usually lack of power in a home is not a sign of good tidings. And it honestly wasn’t. Since we had just bought our weekly ration of food and it was just sitting in the fridge. What made it miracle was after a lot of fiddling with switches we were able to get power back but only in the kitchen. The only room in the whole apartment that we would need power. And God granted us with it. We eventually figured out the bedrooms and bathrooms. Then just today we got the rest of the apartment. Twas a party. Because we ended up moving our diner table into our tiny kitchen in order to eat together under some light. So ya that was fun.
This next experience is kinda sad. But it ends on a good note. We left out Apartment early in the morning for Church. When we got back from Church we find a lizard 🦎 stuck under our apartment door and a little old lady freaking out on the stairs. It was a very entertaining and honestly pleasant surprise after Church. We freed the poor lizard and resuscitated it by putting it in a bucket with little pieces of ham. Eventually it regained it’s strength and we let it go. I elected to call it Karen.
Overall it was a good week, we found a lady who desperately wants to come closer to God. She lived in the US for 27 years and surprised me during the lesson by just popping off in English haha. We invited her to Church but she didn’t show up. Hopefully we can pass by her house this week and teach her some more.
We also visited some less active families. And found one of the coolest families. We show up and there are only three in the house. A brother and a sister and the brother’s pareja (‘free union’ girlfriend). The brother opens the door and is excited to see us so he invites us inside. Then the rest of the family starts showing up. A mom, the eldest brother, the middle child, their parejas, and their kids, in total we had about 10 people huddled in their little living room ready to hear a message. So I shared a little spiritual thought I learned in the states and they loved it. Then the middle child asked a legendary question. And we reassured him and invited everyone to church. None of them came because the first guy we met had a soccer game on Sunday but they said it was the last one so hopefully they’ll be there this next Sunday. The best part is the parejas were all very interested in learning more about the gospel. Right before we started our message they ran out of the room to grab two book of Mormons! Really cool experience.
Till next time,
Elder Service
